Remove pages from a PDF

Remove unwanted pages from a PDF by typing their numbers (e.g. 2, 5, 7-9). Lossless rebuild, instant download, no quality loss on remaining pages.

Loading page picker…

Removing pages from a PDF is one of the most common edits — drop the cover page before forwarding, strip a confidential section before public release, delete blank scans, or trim the appendix from a long report. PDFOnly's page-removal tool takes the simple, fastest approach: type the page numbers you want gone (e.g. '2, 5, 7-9') and download a rebuilt PDF without them. Lossless: text, fonts, and images on the remaining pages are preserved exactly. For visual page selection (drag thumbnails to delete), use Organize PDF instead.

How to remove pages step by step

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Drop the PDF whose pages you want removed. Up to 100 MB free, 200 MB on Pro.

  2. 2

Type the page numbers to delete

Use the same comma-separated syntax as Split PDF: '2, 5, 7-9' removes page 2, page 5, and the range from page 7 through page 9 inclusive. Whitespace is ignored.

  3. 3

    Click Remove and download

We use pdf-lib to copy all pages except the ones you specified into a fresh PDF. The operation is lossless — your remaining pages are bit-for-bit identical to the originals.

Why remove pages on PDFOnly

Type-to-remove is faster than thumbnail dragging

If you already know the page numbers (e.g. from a print-out or a colleague's note), typing them in is much faster than scrolling a thumbnail grid to find and click them.

Lossless guarantee

We re-link page objects from your input PDF; we don't re-render or re-encode. Output text remains selectable, fonts stay embedded, images aren't recompressed.

Handles arbitrary ranges

The same syntax handles single pages, contiguous ranges, and combinations. '1-3, 7, 10-15, 50' is a legal input that removes 9 pages in one operation.

What people use remove pages for

A few common scenarios. If your workflow looks like one of these, this tool is a good fit.

Drop a cover page before forwarding

Vendor sends a quote with their cover sheet attached; you forward to your team without the noise. Remove page 1, send the rest.

Strip confidential sections before public release

Annual reports often have an internal-only appendix. Remove those pages before posting the public version on your investor relations page.

Clean blank pages out of scans

Scanners insert blanks between sheets in duplex mode. Type the blank page numbers to remove them all in one pass. (Or use Delete Blank Pages for auto-detection.)

Trim appendix or supplements from a report

Distribute the executive summary without the 60 pages of supporting data. Remove pages 12-72 in one click.

Frequently asked questions

What's the syntax for the page numbers?

Comma-separated, ranges with hyphens. Examples: '5' removes just page 5. '2, 4, 6' removes pages 2, 4, and 6. '7-10' removes pages 7 through 10. '1, 5-8, 12' combines all three styles.

Will the page numbering change in the output?

Yes — the output PDF's pages are renumbered starting from 1. If you removed pages 2 and 5 from a 10-page PDF, the output is an 8-page PDF where the original page 3 is now page 2, and so on. This affects internal page references but not printed page numbers (which are part of the page content).

What happens to bookmarks and links pointing to removed pages?

Bookmarks pointing to removed pages are dropped. Bookmarks pointing to pages that still exist stay intact and are renumbered. Internal links pointing to removed pages become inactive.

Can I remove pages from a password-protected PDF?

Not while it's encrypted. Use Unlock PDF first with the password, then remove pages from the unlocked version. After removing, you can re-protect with Protect PDF if needed.

What's the difference between this and Split PDF?

Remove Pages keeps everything except what you specify, in one output PDF. Split PDF breaks the PDF into multiple PDFs by ranges. Use Remove Pages when you want a single cleaned output; use Split PDF when you want multiple files.

What's the difference between this and Organize PDF?

Organize PDF gives you a visual thumbnail grid where you click to delete. This tool takes typed page numbers — much faster if you already know which pages to remove. Same underlying engine.

What if I delete every page by mistake?

We refuse to produce an empty PDF — if your selection would remove every page, we return an error so you can correct the input. There's always at least one page in the output.
